Why Christian Education?

Christian schools are distinctive because they emphasize Christ-centeredness in a very self-centered world. You can recognize this distinctive in a Christian school’s focus on spiritual formation in addition to the intellectual development of students. At its best, this emphasis on things spiritual permeates every learning experience. The intention is not to lessen the importance of mathematics or science but rather to help reveal the greater depth and importance of these disciplines and every other academic discipline—including their importance in the nurture and development of each student. The crucial fact is that education is facing some of the stiffest competition that has ever existed in the world. Your children are facing a world in which nearly everything imaginable is vying for their attention—and more important—vying for their hearts and minds.

“Children are a gift of the Lord,” (Psalm 127:3) Scripture tells us, a gift that brings enormous fulfillment and joy, but one that requires a significant investment of our time, effort, love, and patience. We are commanded to “bring [our children] up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4): in other words, to discipline them, teach them, model to them, and love them in such a way that they learn to love God above all else, to trust Him, and obey Him. We are to equip them, first and foremost, to love God and serve Him humbly and honorably all the days of their lives. Secondly, we must provide for them: in their practical, immediate needs as well as their future and emotional or spiritual needs.

Believing that Christian schools serve an increasingly vital purpose, we recommend that parents seriously consider the religious environment of the school in which they wish to immerse their children and from which they will absorb their values and views of life.
